"Count the times Percy says "Bullshit" win a prize"

submission: S.A.M.V. 6
date: December 19, 2007

Well, it's been a while since I've seen these three scraping up the dishevelled droppings of what could constitute "life". What lo? Plot continuation? They actually got a place together? And it's a run down murder-scene crack house! What fun! At least it gets high speed internet, which I hope Melvin can rout into the BATHROOM.

Graphics - 8: Okay! Improvement! Good-o. Shading detail, some effects, even a range background or two! We're still seeing the same jagged, jumpy movement though, same style of bit by bit, flailing lip mouth movements though. My favourite of these is when Percy sees his mother and as if someone shouted "SCENE MISSING" he's on the deck sulking. I did like the little hairs on the fries though, good touch. Overall an improvement, the clip segments like the opening travel sequence I loved. Keep improving.

Style - 7: This I'm sort of down with. I like the extreme realism, the intense drama that seems to stem around every corner. Sure, it's dark and dreary, but it's realistic considering the decisions made by this trio of over eager tots. Gothy is still a retard, nerdo is still a fantasy freak, and Mexicano still thinks everything sucks. Seems reasonable. Just one thing: How'd his mom manage to transport a full Rib meal all the way out there? Wouldn't she be anti-meat, the hippie chick? WILL MELVIN GET HIS CLASSES BACK AND BANG THAT RED HAIRED CASHEER GIRL!? Of this, I must know.

Sound - 7: Good taste in music, voice recordings are good as usual, though I'm not keen on every girl sounding exactly alike. It might just be me. Not as many sound effects this time, which I regretted, as I know that crack house was in dire need of a drippy faucet, squeaky floorboards and a flickering, fizzing light or two.

Violence - 7: Cramming hot, hairy, filthy fries into Melvin's mouth? Check please.

Interactivity 8: All I'd really ask for. Play, with unique opening image, and replay with unique closing image. Plus, credits at the beginning, which I like better then at the end.

Humour - 2: Dude, where's my funny? This one LACKED in comedic relief. You once said 80% comedy, 20% seriousness... well you kinda' flipped it on me buddy. The Melvin fantasy sequence was a small snicker... but beyond that, this really should be put into the "serious flash". Give me something man!

Overall I'm regretting the direction you're taking here. This series used to be funny, edgy, and disarming in it's truthful drama. Now it's just three guys getting a shit deal and throwing their lives away willingly. It's "real", but it's no fun. If I'd gone into this expecting something so negative, I would feel better about the animation itself right now, but I went in wanting to see more of what came before! I'm trying not to be a dick here but, really, throw the trio a bone, or at least make their situation pitiable or humorous?

Phoenix902

P.S. Oh yeah, and I think you've hit 100 as far as images or references to NIN goes.

Author's Response:

A few things-

Good review, you bring up very valid points here. I am gonna say that in trimming this file down to size a lot of the jokes were left on the cutting room floor, so the thing is kinda incomplete as shown here. I'm going to release a director's cut on the website that will have all of the omitted material.

This is a lot darker, but I really am going to try to make the main focus be the character's resilience. There's this inner strength that will get them through this situation together as a team. They have some really tough times ahead of them, but in the end people are going to get a great sense of what motivates these guys.

Thanks for the honest review! Again =)

Yet Another Day

"Awr :3"

submission: Yet Another Day
date: August 20, 2006

Phoenix902 a'back in the saddle here doing my first review in... Holy haddocks in a hand basket it's been a while... and now I feel like fish. So off I go with the (enter overused catchphrase here) b-b-b-bbbbreeeaaakdown!

Graphics: Cute, charming, and nicely timed. The animation worked at a quick pace that could keep you interested without having excesses of flashy entertainment (all boobs aside). It could use maybe a -few- instances of going in to put a little more frame by frame detail, and a little more cleanup around the edges (where it's not specifically intended to be rough).

Style: As I said, it was very cute. Lovingly arranged and organized with just enough cameos and bacon... well, you can never have too much bacon. Nice little message at the end too. Ze negation point? Well if I went around throwing tens everywhichway I wouldn't be much of a reviewist aye wot?

Sound: I loved the music. It fit well with the whole arrangement of things. Though there was no -real- syncage 'round here it suited the theme without trouble. There might've been a better choice out there >.> y'know...

Violence: Aside from violent cold-shower prankings and ravenous felines devouring poor helpless cooked chickens (turkey... some brand of wing-ed animal) and the occasional huggle-pounce there wasn't an excess of violence. Thus, you get FIVE! MUHAHAHA
wif duh fif.

Interactivity: A customized opener (again, featuring bacon) +1. No menu or control bar? - ur mum. Good credits with side drawings? + Yes. End result? +1 - ur mum + Yes = 8. Or more specifically = 8D

Humour: It had its moment of the funny beingness. Nothing above a suppressed chuckle or inner "hee hee"

Overall a nice way to spend the seconds of my pointless existence. I still say there’s a program out there that pre-animates breasts to bounce with perfect gravitational understanding and physics systems... oh I know, and it keeps me up at night, haunting me with its boobie bouncing abilities. CURSE YOU BOOBIE_BOUNCER V.3.9
(Enter the paper to alert me when I've stopped being funny, had a lay over about two words into this review mind you.)

P.S. I bet that Cycon plushie comes alive at night and whispers lude comments to his stuffed companions about the sleeping provider (twilight zone music)

"Not too bad"

submission: S.A.M.V. 5
date: July 6, 2005

Fun to watch, in a way... it definatly had it's momments for 'the funny metre'. What else... oh yeah! The topless mom... really didn't need to see that... really O_O If I may quote (Like -you- can stop me from quoting XD C'mon! Try! C'mon! Whoops. Too late) "Ze goggles! Zey do nussing!!"
Breakdown:

Graphics: You've improved from some of the previous episodes in the series, no doubting that... but it's still lacking in something. There isn't enough natural flow in the movements of the characters, or in anything else in the animation at that. After a while you get set into the pace of it and the mind forgets the whole problem indefinatly (a benifit of a long animation) The speaking n' mouth movements and whatnot were great. Keep improving, you've got an independant way of working flash I want to see more of.

Style: It's origonal, thankfully. Oh I'm not doubting the endless array of 'nerd flashes' out there depicting the fictatious lives of a grouping of nerdy friends. Dorks, geeks, and all mannor of outcasts have been the central point of comedy longer then a twinky can remain edible, even by the outcasts themselves! It's fun to poke fun at ones self. Where was I? Oh yeah. What you've got though is a more real life situation working here... though tweaked out as it is. Magic mushrooms and rat phobias, topless hippy mothers and christianity cons... it's real life set to the pace of Jerry springer, only with slightly less of the idiots screaming from the stands.

Sound: Reasonably good voices n' whatnots. What I really liked though was how each voice in the series really works with the character. Why did I give you a seven then? Well, for one, I hate myself and I believe BMW's are actually small fragments of satan in the form of cars. More specificially though there just werent any sound effects! Example. The scene where they're sitting back on the curb talking about ol' spikey heads lost electronic beloved. They're outside! A few passing car sounds, maybe a few crickets in the background? Other then that pretty good.

Violence: N/A

Interactivity: The basics plus an opener. Play, replay, replay w/out intro, site link.

Humor: Well it's funny... but not funny in a 'joke' sense... n' it gets far too serious in parts to be considered a comedy... I'm so confused!! Oh wait, I'm a teenage male, I don't -think-. Ahhh thats better.

Overall a very funny installment of the series. Keep improving and I'd love to see more!
Nice boner animation,

-Phoenix902

P.S. This may be a completly random questions... but hell thats my bread and butter. What makes Melvin's hair so pointy?

Author's Response:

Whoa, what a review! Man, reading over it, I truly agree with you. I REALLY think I could add a lot more sound effects. It would definately enrich the whole experience. As far as story goes... I intended this to be 80% comedy and 20% serious. Juuuust enough serious to add a little meat to its bones, give it an element of realism. Life can really get hard, and I wanted to express that. With the help of friends, however, it's much easier. I wanted to express that too.

As far as the graphics go... maybe I could have worked a little more on uniformity. You're right, there is an emptiness in some of the scenes (like the church... just not enough going on and the colors don't mesh). I'll iron it out in part two.

As far as Melvin's hair goes... He never cuts it because he's not into his appearance. And, it's probably all greasy from long hours on the computer. Ick.

Thanks a lot, your review opened my eyes to a lot of opportunities I should take! Please review part 2 when it comes out. =D

Most like all your animations it was fun to watch and listen to. The largest factor into my enjoyment of this would be how much of a fantastic fantasy world CCC is, it’s so unreal. Plus, the cameo from our favorite adventure girl n' her high flying former partner made me look forwards to your next flash even more! Breakdown:

Graphics: A pretty impressive accomplishment for such a short period of time... and so many cigs. Mouse drawn especially. The animation itself is simple, but you add complexity in the setting and how it all works together as a whole. As previously stated, I love the whole world of CCC... and this will sound strange but I'd want to see it being even -more- strange and eccentric. Such as the buildings and clothing, more portrayal of everyday things. I was just waiting to see a giant glove shaped building somewhere O_O don’t know why... Oh, and the angel wings were cool... yeah.

Style: Now here my good Vinnie Veritas is where you've got my highest vote. Every animation you've published to NG thus-far have been so original and interesting it's easy to say you've got style coming out the hoo-hah... or any other oriffice with a comical name tied to it. Though I'd not meddle with this I've got to provide -some- criticism. I'd want to see more into the world of CCC. Festivals, adventures, stuff like that! Aside from that, rockin' to the max ^_^

Sound: I'd like to personally thank you for introducing me to Jumbo, I'm addicted now! N' I can only speak two languages! I've no clue what their saying... but the hell with it they know how to make a good beat. It you sync up with the animation very well too, nice work.

Violence: I couldn't say not available... because -technically- it was there but not anything huge. A few lil' brawls here and there... but heck I'll give you a seven cause I likes ya XD

Interactivity: Basics. Start, replay, site link.

Humor: Heh, it had its moments. The fellow who was sleeping on the bench over that girls knees. The guy with the arrow hat who wouldn't listen so the girl who was talking held up an actual crossbow X3 Funneh!

Overall another fantastic installment to the series, or at least what you've got on newgrounds... which is all I can review ;_; my powers are so limited...
Ciao for now!

Best sprite fight animation crossover I've seen in a while. Those who claim thats not saying much, you'd be suprised how many of these NG gets, that simply go without notice. Breakdown:

Graphics: When dealing with sprite animations one has to look twards the little details. Since the technical "artwork" isn't origonal it's all about what the animator added as an extra lil' spice. Such as: The white bubble effects around most single hits, more commonly seen in the begining parts. The slow-mo portions and constrant theming for powerful hits. Also, my favorite part, was how you effectively used a ranged attack as the snow/rain or whatever in the reunion scene between Ken and Chun-Li. You rather skillfully chose each pose for every instance in the animation. I was really impressed in the lil' hugging scene there, and the starlight credits were a sweet bit of graphical entertainment. Though it's not my place the only portion I'd ask for is maybe next time going outside what abilites the characters would have as the game dictates it. Why not let Ken have some crazy beam attack, wouldn't hurt nobodies! Also... no netspeak... please... "WTF"? Cmon. You're one heck of a sprite animator.

Style: First time I've ever given this high a mark for a standard type sprite animation. No, it wasn't "origonal" per-say as classification goes. It was a sprite fighting flash, whop-te-do. Buh' cmon people! He had history, plot, skilled animation, and a menu that kicks the mass majority of ass. Imma' gonna go ahed and give it a 7.6 simply for the spiffocity of this, though it was unorigonal in type. (rounding off)

Sound: Now here's your best catagory, you auditory madman you. 1. My favorite song from the entire Tekken series. 2. Complete sound effects from game and outside of game. 3. In game voices. Problems though... I'd add in just a few little sound effects for the buttons, and some music for the main menu. Aside from that cool stuff.

Violence: Well Yar. It was an animation focused mainly around fighting fer Jebus sake. My only major peeve here is the unranging field of attack animations. Really, it was the same mini-explosion and white bubble thing over and over. Different hits, different hit animations.

Interactivity: Got to hand it to you, thats one heck of a menu. I'd love to but I just can't give you a ten mister Peroxide. There wasn't an in animation scene changer or bottom/top scroller. I was especially impressed with the window for scene selection. Good work.

Humor: N/A... plus I didn't like the nail bit or the WTF.

Overall a pretty friggin cool flash that returns a good name to the rhelm of sprite animation. I hope to see more stuff like this! Especially if it'd include some more of my favorite videogame characters! (Ken was on my top 10, so are Zero and Chrono... jus' sayin >.>)

-Phoenix902

P.S. Did you make the picture on the main menu yourself? if so with what program.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the in-depth analysis. I created the interface with Photoshop (I've had 5 years of experience with it).

date: April 21, 2005

Slow, stale, and lazy. I'm sorry to say this but this is just the same old attempt at a heart string tugger (no pun intended). Breakdown:

Graphics: Its an origonal working, I wont deny that. What with the dompletly disproportionate "person" and heart and all. Honestly though you cut too many corners. It's the same pictures and animation endlessly with some loopy writing with a half-decent fade effect. Seriously though... what the funk!? What was that guy? And why was his heart on a line like three feet away from him... and why did he have to pluck the cord off as a sacrafice for love... and a love for who!? Maybe I missed something I don't know either way it was dragged out animation wise.

Style: Too many times before someones attempted to pull out some piece of flash and describe its simplicity with 'depth'. You want some tears from me? Spend another month or two on it. Add some actual plotline. Give us an idea of whats going on and why this should be sad! If this is too harsh I'm sorry but it's getting to a point of sickening. It dosn't deserve the abiss of blamnation, but it sure as hell dosn't deserve such a high score.

Sound: Okay, I liked the fifth element and the soundtrack... -and- you were able to compress it well without loosing too much quality. This is definatly the animations best quality. If the animation had been more extencive and understandable then it would have matched up perfectly.

Violence: Err... I could say the blood was violence but... no. No it's not. So N/A

Interactivity: Basics. Start, replay, author name. Extra point for origonal start and replay.

Humor: N/A

Overall you definatly need more practice. I'm glad your girlfriend enjoyed this and all. You've got some tallent there. Take some time and hone it before submitting something on NG again. But thats just me.

Madness Depredation

".... REALITY HAS BEEN SKULL F$#%ED"

date: March 24, 2005

Wow... okay... when the clown showed up everything went from impossible to mind splittingly impossible. Reality simply bent into a pretzel to the clowns will... I know who's not sleepin' tonight!
Breakdown:

Graphics: Ahhh madness, now you brighen our lives with your mutilation and decapitation of origonal characters without legs, arms, or necks or eyes or noses. *whipe tear* Seriously a nice smooth animation with the usual kicks of a Krinkles flash adding in how fuggin' bloody and fun and well designed the characters, weapons, and backgrounds were. Kudos!

Style: It's your own origonal style which of course makes it kick ass. The limbless has been done before mind you, but not in this way. Also the entire series has a constant comedic additive of 'Why wont you die!?' I mean seriously. Shot, stabbed, blown up, and now his head's been chopped off and smashed up... what the hell!? Hows he gonna get out of that one?

Sound: Eh, not one of my favorites as sound goes. Good though, just not personally one I liked. At the momment Apothesis is my number one as music goes. You scored on sound effects though. Gunfire, sword slashes, everything.

Violence: Uh durrrr. This is MADNESS. You'll start bleeding by -watching- it!

Interactivity: Basics, play replay links and loader. Bonus point for origonal loader.

Humor: Wow, that was funny on some kind of level I don't want to get to... the clown took reality, turned it upside down and spanked it like a pink shaved monkey full of clams. It just MADE. NO. SENCE. Clowns.... clowns... clowns... *shivers*

Overall a-... clowns... *shivers* Overall a good piece for the madness series. You rock Krinkles.

There she is!! step 2

"... WHY! WHY THE HELL DOES THIS ROCK SO MUCH!?"

date: March 12, 2005

Seriously... you rock so much that that... umm... ROCKS have trouble rocking as much as you! Yeah! Limestone and Granite don't have shit on you!... but seeing as your english isn't that good, and the chances of you reading this is astronomically against my favor.... BREAKDOWN:

Graphics: Holy wheelbarrow full of crist you improved... which is amazing since the first "There She Is!!!" was fantastic. Could be my mistake though and you simply put more time into basic animations like yawning and eating and running and stuff. Or maybe it's just longer... Either way great graphics, smooth animation, and just a ton of %100 good ol' fashoined grade 'A' flash.

Style: The whole base black and white animation in combination with single colored objects such as scarves, or bows, or lil' carrots has been done since the internet was born, sparcely though. Hell if it's not still cute and fun to watch. Especially when the amination is of this quality. Plus, who'd want to see a fully colored SamBakZa creation? It wouldn't feel right!

Sound: When I first pressed 'Play' an imediate feeling of pre-doom came over me. Yes, pre-doom. It's a great way of saying "doom is comming cause you did this, dummy." Because, of course, the reason the first addition of this flash was so great was 50% because of the music. How could you ever top it? I've bad expirience with bunny animations when it comes to sequels because of "Another Day" (no offence flash bros). But lately, with "BunnyKill" apsolutely destroying it's sucessor, maybe good old rabbit flash was making a comeback? And WHAM!!! This hit me like a pile of mama's feshly made the Chekt.
The music, once again, worked brilliantly with the animation!

Violence: N/A

Interactivity: Basics with the adition of a good loader, play button, and replay button. The ending links were clearly placed and accessable.

Humor: I laughed my ass off. Litrally. No, really, I'm serious. I'm still looking for it. You know how hard it is to sit and type a review when you have no ass? Well I'll tell you. It -sucks.- Right where was I? Oh yeah. Laughed my ass off. The through the entire flash it was a nonstop gabble of laughter, even in that chase scene! My personal fav orite is when the bunny girl just eats the entire replacement cake. And then the 'no animal was harmed in the makeing of this' thing at the end brilliant! Your english is improving, by the way.

Overall now my current #1 favorite flash of all time. Though I'm sure There She Is step 3 will blow this away DON'T RUSH! If I don't see that baby for a whole year I'll still be happy. You've braught joy to NG Mr.BakZa, without violence or spreading hate at that!
You friggin' better win daily pick, choice of the week, -and- artist of the month for this. Seriously.

-Phoenix902

P.S. How long -did- you take making this? There she is dosn't seem that long ago really. Maybe it's just because it stays so fresh, like that last slice of pizza you find on the counter the next morning. It was still fine! I-... uh oh... *runs off to the bathroom*

Ahh colaborations, the wondoways to some plaign of something to the something and so on. Breakdown:

Graphics: Well what the heck can I do? More then twenty artists and I'm supposed to summarise my opinion into a single catagory of graphics!? You're crazy! Quit bein' crazy man, I mean it. You're freakin' me out!!!

Style: Good work getting this all together. It may not be some kind of groundbreaking amazing colaborations presenting the highest quality works that the newgrounds artists comunity has to offer... but it's enjoyable. I was suprised with the line-up, especially the Super Flash Bro's and Legendary Frog... and even moreso at several artists I've never even heard of!... Look! A grizzly bear riding a alien eggbeater! *dashes away to learn about said artists*

Sound: The song went well with the whole flash artist unity such and such... yeah... good song... yeah... *bursts into tears* It was beautiful man! I love you all! *breaks down, then realizes he still has three M&M's* Oooh candy.

Violence: N/A

Interactivity: Play, replay. Basics level.

Humor: Well since it could be characterized as a 'serious' flash I should say N/A but that was pretty funny when Dim chased Tom off with matches, what with his constant troubles with fire and simontanious combustion and whatnot.

Overall a nice little colaboration that I feel proud to have wasted several minutes of my life watching. Ciao.

part 2: synj vs horrid

"... Wow."

date: October 24, 2004

That kicked so much ass I can't even measure it with my how-much-ass-kicked machine. Seriously. It's off the M%$#@# F#$%ing ass-kicked scale. breakdown:

Graphics: Exceptionally smooth and solid. At points in time the changing quality proved annoying, especialy when I tried to keep it on high... maybe it's just my computer. Anyway I loved the characters. I think both synj and Horrid are both very origonal. Above all else in your flash animations I've always loved your design with small odd, even freakish, creatures of all kinds. I mean from Alien Hominid to synj and Horrid, to the Sack Smasher and even destructive killing machines like the Childred Chainsawer and the cantankerous tank, it's easy to see andappreciate your style.

Style: I'm proud to see little animations popping up on newgrounds lately. It's just my opinion, but thats what everyone wants to see most. Who wants to watch four to five minutes of mind numbing jargin with horrible animation when you can watch fourty seconds to a minute of solid skilled entertaining flash? And whats more, why spend so much time makeing it if you know the animation will turn people off? I like your style dan, and when Alien Hominid comes out I'll be the first in my area to buy a copy.

Sound: The music worked exceptionaly well with the animation. I really can't ask for more. Also the sound effects corrosponded well. I most enjoyed the ending sounds durring the credits. Actualy kept my attention through that unlike most instances having to scroll through credit sequences.

Violence: Well I'd say it was bloody violent enough thank you very much... well actualy there wasn't any blood... was there? I missed it if there was. Anyway yes the fighting sequence with the Lightning Golem whasit was exceptionally cool. I really hope to see more action paced animations in future. Then again I'll be happy to see anything by Dan Paladin in the future.

Humor: heh, it was pretty funny at times. Most of the time I didn't even know why! Anyway your other animations which are humor based are always knock outs so why friggin not. Good work.

Overall a fun little piece of flash I quite enjoyed. Keep up the good work Dan and good luck with Alien Hominid!
