"Count the times Percy says "Bullshit" win a prize"

submission: S.A.M.V. 6
date: December 19, 2007

Well, it's been a while since I've seen these three scraping up the dishevelled droppings of what could constitute "life". What lo? Plot continuation? They actually got a place together? And it's a run down murder-scene crack house! What fun! At least it gets high speed internet, which I hope Melvin can rout into the BATHROOM.

Graphics - 8: Okay! Improvement! Good-o. Shading detail, some effects, even a range background or two! We're still seeing the same jagged, jumpy movement though, same style of bit by bit, flailing lip mouth movements though. My favourite of these is when Percy sees his mother and as if someone shouted "SCENE MISSING" he's on the deck sulking. I did like the little hairs on the fries though, good touch. Overall an improvement, the clip segments like the opening travel sequence I loved. Keep improving.

Style - 7: This I'm sort of down with. I like the extreme realism, the intense drama that seems to stem around every corner. Sure, it's dark and dreary, but it's realistic considering the decisions made by this trio of over eager tots. Gothy is still a retard, nerdo is still a fantasy freak, and Mexicano still thinks everything sucks. Seems reasonable. Just one thing: How'd his mom manage to transport a full Rib meal all the way out there? Wouldn't she be anti-meat, the hippie chick? WILL MELVIN GET HIS CLASSES BACK AND BANG THAT RED HAIRED CASHEER GIRL!? Of this, I must know.

Sound - 7: Good taste in music, voice recordings are good as usual, though I'm not keen on every girl sounding exactly alike. It might just be me. Not as many sound effects this time, which I regretted, as I know that crack house was in dire need of a drippy faucet, squeaky floorboards and a flickering, fizzing light or two.

Violence - 7: Cramming hot, hairy, filthy fries into Melvin's mouth? Check please.

Interactivity 8: All I'd really ask for. Play, with unique opening image, and replay with unique closing image. Plus, credits at the beginning, which I like better then at the end.

Humour - 2: Dude, where's my funny? This one LACKED in comedic relief. You once said 80% comedy, 20% seriousness... well you kinda' flipped it on me buddy. The Melvin fantasy sequence was a small snicker... but beyond that, this really should be put into the "serious flash". Give me something man!

Overall I'm regretting the direction you're taking here. This series used to be funny, edgy, and disarming in it's truthful drama. Now it's just three guys getting a shit deal and throwing their lives away willingly. It's "real", but it's no fun. If I'd gone into this expecting something so negative, I would feel better about the animation itself right now, but I went in wanting to see more of what came before! I'm trying not to be a dick here but, really, throw the trio a bone, or at least make their situation pitiable or humorous?

P.S. Oh yeah, and I think you've hit 100 as far as images or references to NIN goes.

Author's Response:

A few things-

Good review, you bring up very valid points here. I am gonna say that in trimming this file down to size a lot of the jokes were left on the cutting room floor, so the thing is kinda incomplete as shown here. I'm going to release a director's cut on the website that will have all of the omitted material.

This is a lot darker, but I really am going to try to make the main focus be the character's resilience. There's this inner strength that will get them through this situation together as a team. They have some really tough times ahead of them, but in the end people are going to get a great sense of what motivates these guys.

Thanks for the honest review! Again =)

Yet Another Day

"Awr :3"

Phoenix902 a'back in the saddle here doing my first review in... Holy haddocks in a hand basket it's been a while... and now I feel like fish. So off I go with the (enter overused catchphrase here) b-b-b-bbbbreeeaaakdown!

Graphics: Cute, charming, and nicely timed. The animation worked at a quick pace that could keep you interested without having excesses of flashy entertainment (all boobs aside). It could use maybe a -few- instances of going in to put a little more frame by frame detail, and a little more cleanup around the edges (where it's not specifically intended to be rough).

Style: As I said, it was very cute. Lovingly arranged and organized with just enough cameos and bacon... well, you can never have too much bacon. Nice little message at the end too. Ze negation point? Well if I went around throwing tens everywhichway I wouldn't be much of a reviewist aye wot?

Sound: I loved the music. It fit well with the whole arrangement of things. Though there was no -real- syncage 'round here it suited the theme without trouble. There might've been a better choice out there >.> y'know...

Violence: Aside from violent cold-shower prankings and ravenous felines devouring poor helpless cooked chickens (turkey... some brand of wing-ed animal) and the occasional huggle-pounce there wasn't an excess of violence. Thus, you get FIVE! MUHAHAHA
wif duh fif.

Interactivity: A customized opener (again, featuring bacon) +1. No menu or control bar? - ur mum. Good credits with side drawings? + Yes. End result? +1 - ur mum + Yes = 8. Or more specifically = 8D

Humour: It had its moment of the funny beingness. Nothing above a suppressed chuckle or inner "hee hee"

Overall a nice way to spend the seconds of my pointless existence. I still say there’s a program out there that pre-animates breasts to bounce with perfect gravitational understanding and physics systems... oh I know, and it keeps me up at night, haunting me with its boobie bouncing abilities. CURSE YOU BOOBIE_BOUNCER V.3.9
(Enter the paper to alert me when I've stopped being funny, had a lay over about two words into this review mind you.)

P.S. I bet that Cycon plushie comes alive at night and whispers lude comments to his stuffed companions about the sleeping provider (twilight zone music)

"Not too bad"

submission: S.A.M.V. 5
date: July 6, 2005

Fun to watch, in a way... it definatly had it's momments for 'the funny metre'. What else... oh yeah! The topless mom... really didn't need to see that... really O_O If I may quote (Like -you- can stop me from quoting XD C'mon! Try! C'mon! Whoops. Too late) "Ze goggles! Zey do nussing!!"
Breakdown:

Graphics: You've improved from some of the previous episodes in the series, no doubting that... but it's still lacking in something. There isn't enough natural flow in the movements of the characters, or in anything else in the animation at that. After a while you get set into the pace of it and the mind forgets the whole problem indefinatly (a benifit of a long animation) The speaking n' mouth movements and whatnot were great. Keep improving, you've got an independant way of working flash I want to see more of.

Style: It's origonal, thankfully. Oh I'm not doubting the endless array of 'nerd flashes' out there depicting the fictatious lives of a grouping of nerdy friends. Dorks, geeks, and all mannor of outcasts have been the central point of comedy longer then a twinky can remain edible, even by the outcasts themselves! It's fun to poke fun at ones self. Where was I? Oh yeah. What you've got though is a more real life situation working here... though tweaked out as it is. Magic mushrooms and rat phobias, topless hippy mothers and christianity cons... it's real life set to the pace of Jerry springer, only with slightly less of the idiots screaming from the stands.

Sound: Reasonably good voices n' whatnots. What I really liked though was how each voice in the series really works with the character. Why did I give you a seven then? Well, for one, I hate myself and I believe BMW's are actually small fragments of satan in the form of cars. More specificially though there just werent any sound effects! Example. The scene where they're sitting back on the curb talking about ol' spikey heads lost electronic beloved. They're outside! A few passing car sounds, maybe a few crickets in the background? Other then that pretty good.

Violence: N/A

Interactivity: The basics plus an opener. Play, replay, replay w/out intro, site link.

Humor: Well it's funny... but not funny in a 'joke' sense... n' it gets far too serious in parts to be considered a comedy... I'm so confused!! Oh wait, I'm a teenage male, I don't -think-. Ahhh thats better.

Overall a very funny installment of the series. Keep improving and I'd love to see more!
Nice boner animation,

-Phoenix902

P.S. This may be a completly random questions... but hell thats my bread and butter. What makes Melvin's hair so pointy?

Author's Response:

Whoa, what a review! Man, reading over it, I truly agree with you. I REALLY think I could add a lot more sound effects. It would definately enrich the whole experience. As far as story goes... I intended this to be 80% comedy and 20% serious. Juuuust enough serious to add a little meat to its bones, give it an element of realism. Life can really get hard, and I wanted to express that. With the help of friends, however, it's much easier. I wanted to express that too.

As far as the graphics go... maybe I could have worked a little more on uniformity. You're right, there is an emptiness in some of the scenes (like the church... just not enough going on and the colors don't mesh). I'll iron it out in part two.

As far as Melvin's hair goes... He never cuts it because he's not into his appearance. And, it's probably all greasy from long hours on the computer. Ick.

Thanks a lot, your review opened my eyes to a lot of opportunities I should take! Please review part 2 when it comes out. =D
